Knitting Olympics

Yarn Harlot’s hosting a Knitting Olympics. I really don’t care about the real Olympics, but I’m up for a knitter’s challenge. Only question is, what to make? Probably something with that bright pink yarn I posted about a few days ago. So far it’s looking like a shawl or stole…

  1. I think I managed to sign up, too. Hard to say since there’s no confirmation. Now I’ve got to come up with a good pattern for the challenge!

What are you going to make?

  2. I signed up and put that I was going to make a shawl. I’ve narrowed it down to Kiri (free pattern on line), The Flower Basket Shawl from Interweave Knits, or Ene’s Scarf from Scarf Style. Goodluck to you!

  3. Those are three beautiful patterns, Kara! No matter which you choose, it’ll end up great.

I’m leaning towards making a stole (a rectangular shawl, really). I have some stitch guides, so I might pick out a lacy design I like and just wing it. The only rule is that it has to be yarn already in my stash!

  4. Hmm… what’s the gauge on the pink yarn? If it’s not unreasonably tiny, how about a turtleneck? I almost never wear turtlenecks, but both the thought of super-soft merino and that shade of pink both made me want one.

  5. It’s 25 st/30 rows in a 4×4″ swatch. I love the turtleneck idea, or a bolero, but it’s not really enough yarn for the size I’d need. Damn!

Anyway, I’m psyched about the stole idea now. I’ve got a few stitch patterns in mind, so I’ll swatch and see which one I like best.
